At Free the Wheel Foundation

We believe in the boundless potential of every individual. Our mission is to transform the lives of children by providing them with custom-built wheelchairs tailored to their unique needs and aspirations. Through charity that directly impacts, we are dedicated to mobilizing spirits, fostering inclusivity, and championing a world where every journey is one of freedom and possibility.

Our Vision

Through our endeavors, we aspire to ignite a spark within these children, inspiring them to defy expectations and, in turn, become beacons of inspiration for generations to come. We believe that by mobilizing their spirits, we can truly free the wheel, opening doors to a future where every child can dream, aspire, and achieve beyond the boundaries that once restricted them. With your help we can make this a reality for so many.

Our Mission

At the heart of our foundation's mission is the unwavering commitment to providing children with opportunities often hindered by a lack of essential equipment. We believe that by mobilizing their spirits, we can truly free the wheel, opening doors to a future where every child can dream, aspire, and achieve beyond the boundaries that once restricted them.

Our Process

By supplying the necessary tools and resources, we aim to empower these resilient youngsters to break free from the confines of their circumstances and reach new heights of potential. We have partnered out to some of the best chair builders across the globe. These fabricators are dedicated to providing top quality that is both durable, functional, and provide life time warranties.

Insurance Companies

Even when a family is fortunate enough to possess private or government-assisted insurance, the options for wheelchairs become significantly restricted. Insurance companies typically establish a predetermined budget for wheelchairs, forcing individuals to choose from a limited selection. While major chair manufacturers may label some options as "custom" within that budget, many of these chairs are not designed for practical, everyday use. Compounding the issue, insurance providers often fail to cover expenses for parts or repairs when these chairs inevitably face wear and tear. Moreover, the infrequent approval for new chairs, occurring only every few years, can leave wheelchair users with limited mobility and hindered access until a replacement is sanctioned.

Chair Manufacturing

While most major chair manufacturers offer a diverse range of wheelchairs, the inherent challenge lies in their limited suitability beyond flat surfaces and occasional usage. Primarily designed for home environments and sporadic outings, these chairs face significant shortcomings when confronted with the real-world terrain. Navigating gravel pathways, surmounting curbs, negotiating textured ramps, and enduring normal wear and tear are daily obstacles that exceed the intended usage. Additionally, not all individuals handling the transportation of wheelchairs, whether loading them into cars, trucks, or onto planes, exercise the necessary care. Despite being constructed of metal, the misconception that these chairs should be impervious to damage is flawed. When breakages occur, they not only compromise the durability of the chair but also strip users of their much-needed independence and mobility. The repairs when breaks do happen are normally left to the owner to pay for.

The Why

Why we need Free The Wheel and the Problems we are trying to solve

Breaking Limitations

Families facing the aftermath of a child’s injury requiring a wheelchair encounter a multitude of challenges, from soaring medical bills to the necessity for specialized living accommodations, modifications, supplies, and equipment. In many cases, these families turn to government assistance programs for support. However, the equipment provided by such programs is often limited and tends to be of mediocre quality, hindering the child’s ability and independence. This limitation not only affects their immediate mobility but can also set the tone for their future as adults. The Free The Wheel Foundation recognizes the importance of breaking these limitations. Our mission is to provide children with the tools and resources they need to overcome obstacles, fostering a sense of independence that not only transforms their lives but inspires them to become catalysts for change and motivation for others facing similar challenges. Through our initiatives, we aim to empower these children to envision a future full of possibilities, unbound by the constraints of their circumstances.

Our Goal

At Free The Wheel, our goal is to donate new wheelchairs to children that are not only durable and built to withstand active play but are also guaranteed for their quality and longevity. We understand that every child is unique, which is why we focus on donating custom built wheelchairs to meet the specific needs and preferences of the individual child. By providing these personalized, high-quality wheelchairs, we aim to empower children to engage in sports and daily activities with confidence and freedom, ensuring they can lead an active and fulfilling life.
